Acquired Forms Of Glaucoma Account For Majority Of Cases In Children.

MedPage Today (4/14, Bankhead) reported that, according to a study published in the April issue of the Archives of Ophthalmology, “acquired forms of glaucoma account for almost two-thirds of cases involving children.” After reviewing “medical records of all residents of Olmsted County, MN, younger than 20 who had glaucoma diagnoses from Jan. 1, 1965 through Dec. 31, 2004,” Mayo Clinic researchers found that “19 of the 30 children (63%) had acquired glaucoma,” caused most commonly by surgery and trauma.
