Transcendental Meditation may reduce heart risks

BBC News (11/17) reports that “heart disease patients who practise Transcendental Meditation have reduced death rates,” according to a study presented at the American Heart Association meeting.

The UK’s Telegraph (11/17, Smith) reports that for the study, “201 African American people with an average age of 59 and who had all been diagnosed with heart disease were randomly assigned to either Transcendental Meditation or health education classes about diet and exercise.”

The researchers found that “heart attacks, strokes, and deaths fell by 47 percent in the meditation group,” the UK’s Daily Mail (11/17) reports.
